A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BMW 2 SERIES MODELS.

THE FIRST GENERATION OF THE 2 SERIES.

BMW 2 Series BMW 2 Series Coupé F22 three-quarter front view driving on the street

The successor to the BMW 1 Series Coupé set its own visual accents in 2013 and emphasized the vehicle's sporty character even more clearly with its flared rear wheel arches, athletic rear end and striking silhouette with sloping roofline. Following the model update in 2017, new front and rear lights ensured an even more commanding appearance. The front headlights featured LED technology as standard.

Agile engines delivered dynamic propulsion across the range, whether with a three-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters or the M models, whose CS variant produced a brawny 450 hp (331 kW). The chassis quickly showed that these compact vehicles also carried the BMW DNA, with precise, clearly defined steering that ensured control in every situation.

Inside, the driver was supported by a wide range of assistance systems, such as active cruise control, which reacts to the speed of the traffic in front of the vehicle. In addition, infotainment systems able to stream music from the leading online libraries promised pure entertainment while on the road.

Production period: 2013 – 2021

Engines: 1.5 – 3.0 liters (100 – 331 kW, 136 – 450 hp), 3 & 6-cylinder

Length/width/height: 4,432 – 4,468 mm / 1,774 mm / 1,390 – 1,418 mm

BMW 2 Series BMW 2 Series Convertible F23 three-quarter front view driving on the street

The BMW 2 Series Convertible replaced its predecessor, the BMW 1 Series Convertible, in 2015. As with the Coupé, the sporty accents were now much more apparent, for example in the Convertible's shoulder line, which extended from the hood over the side beading to the vehicle's muscular rear. The fabric roof could be opened and closed at speeds of up to 50 km/h. Combined with the BMW 2 Series Convertible's agile steering, this ensured an even more direct connection to the road.

The same engines found in the Coupé enabled this compact, soft-top car to deliver a unique form of driving pleasure. The Convertible made no compromises – either in terms of aesthetics or driving performance.

Production period: 2015 – 2021

Engines: 1.5 – 3.0 liters (100 – 331 kW, 136 – 450 hp), 3 & 6-cylinder

Length/width/height: 4,432 – 4,468 mm / 1,774 mm / 1,390 – 1,418 mm

In 2020, the BMW 2 Series welcomed a new addition with no direct predecessor: the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé. Exceptional through and through, it simply exudes confidence down to the last detail – from the BMW kidney grille with mesh design in the BMW M235i xDrive and an elaborate, three-dimensional structure, to the frameless doors and the sideline, which is raised towards the rear and creates a striking contrast with the sloping roof. Performance-oriented aesthetics meet individuality and extravagance!
This concept continues inside the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, where the optional fully digital BMW Live Cockpit Professional with two optional 10.25" screens and heads-up display shows the driver all relevant information in every situation.

In addition to the 3 and 4-cylinder turbocharged engines, some of which feature adjustable charge vanes, optional 7 or 8-speed Steptronic transmissions also ensure peerless driving performance.

Production period: 2020 – present

Engines: 1.5 - 2.0 liters (85 – 225 kW, 116 – 306 hp), 3 & 4-cylinder

Length/width/height: 4,526 mm/1,800 mm/1,420 mm

BMW 2 Series BMW 2 Series Active Tourer F45 three-quarter side view driving on the street

Since 2014, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has combined modern styling with urban charm as the perfect companion for an active lifestyle. As versatile as it is efficient, this car effortlessly masters every challenge the urban environment holds in store. However, it also shines on longer journeys to the great outdoors.
The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer owes its sporty appearance not least to the horizontal beading that is subtly aligned with the clearly contoured side sills. In the interior, too, the horizontal lines combine with the clearly delineated surfaces to create a comfortable feeling of space.

Modern 3 and 4-cylinder engines drive the front wheels as standard – an xDrive all-wheel-drive is also available as an option. Incidentally, this works just like a hybrid drive, i.e., a BMW eDrive powers the rear wheels. Together with the combustion engine, the sky is therefore the limit – enjoy local journeys with emission-free, virtually silent driving, dynamic acceleration and a total range of around 500 kilometers (310 miles).

In 2018, the face-lifted model received an even more striking front and rear thanks to the redesigned lights, as well as updated engines with even lower emissions.

Production period: 2014 – 2021

Engines: 1.5 – 2.0 liters (75 – 170 kW, 102 – 231 hp), 3 & 4-cylinder

Length/width/height: 4,342 – 4,354 mm / 1,800 mm / 1,555 mm

The perfect combination of dynamics and flexibility: With an optional third row of seats, the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer can accommodate up to seven people. However, thanks to the 3 and 4-cylinder TwinPower turbo engines and the characteristic front with impressive double kidney grille, it remains every bit as athletic as its smaller stable mates. Additional practicality is ensured by the large doors, long wheelbase and short overhangs. Optimum road holding is a given thanks to the single-joint strut-type axles at the front and the use of lightweight, high-strength materials in the chassis, which endows the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer with agile and precise steering. Optionally available: BMW xDrive all-wheel drive and dual-clutch Steptronic sports transmission for even faster, smoother gear changes.

In 2018, the legendary BMW kidney grille grew even bigger as the result of the model update – and is now flanked by all-new LED headlights. The new front apron also lends the entire vehicle an even more charismatic appearance.

Production period: 2015 – 2022

Engines: 1.5 – 2.0 liters (80 – 140 kW, 109 – 190 hp), 3 & 4-cylinder

Length/width/height: 4,556 – 4,568 mm / 1,800 mm / 1,641 mm

THE SECOND GENERATION OF THE 2 SERIES.

BMW 2 Series BMW 2 Series Coupé G42 front view standing

The BMW 2 Series Coupé, released in 2021, continues the tradition of sportive, compact but powerful vehicles: an emotional driving experience thanks to the rear drive unit and agile handling. The highly efficient, high-performance engines enable powerful acceleration in all driving conditions. And the optional adjustable sport steering ensures immediate response, minimal steering effort and precision when driving. With a 31 mm wider track compared to its predecessor, the vehicle boasts a superior visual appearance. Likewise, the new single-frame double kidney in which, instead of bars, kidney flaps open or close depending on the cooling demand required. The Bi-LED single headlights are reminiscent of coupé legends such as the BMW 2002, and under the lights, triangular air intakes create a sporty appearance. Triangles are often repeated in the BMW 2 Series’ Coupé design – as embossing in the inner door panels for example.

With the BMW Digital Key your smartphone will be able to open and lock the vehicle or even start up the engine. And if you are ever unsure whether you have locked your car – you can do so at any time while on the road via the My BMW app.

Production period: 2021 – today

Engines: 2.0 – 3.0 liters (135 – 275 kW, 184 – 374 hp), 4- & 6-cylinder

Length/width/height: 4,537 mm / 1,838 mm /1,390–1,404 mm

BMW 2 Series BMW 2 Series Active Tourer U06 2021 Plug-in hybrid Mild Hybrid

Available from 2021, the second generation of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is more agile and versatile than ever. With its large, octagonal double kidney grille, the sporty, confident design cuts a striking and self-assured look. The flush-mounted door handles emphasise the clear design. And, at the same time, the silhouette is given a dynamic contour thanks to the stretched side window graphic, the flat A-pillar and the precise lines. The interior of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is equally impressive thanks to its generous space. Optimally placed storage compartments, optional sports seats for driver and front passenger and the standard adjustability of the rear seat backrest angle ensure that the interior can be used in various ways and that the passengers are as comfortable as possible.

Equipped with the latest generation BMW iDrive, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer offers a host of innovative technologies that are anything but standard in this compact class. The standard BMW Curved Display and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant provide a completely new user experience. The ultra-modern operating concept with intuitive menu structure enables interaction between driver and vehicle either by touch or speech.

The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer plug-in hybrids combine outstanding fuel consumption figures with typical BMW driving dynamics. Thanks to the latest 5th generation BMW eDrive technology, the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with hybrid drive offers up to 80 kilometres of pure electric driving pleasure.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer with its mild hybrid technology converts the vehicle's kinetic energy into electricity when braking or coasting and stores it in the battery. The result is lower emissions and fuel consumption, a 14 kW increase in power and 55 Nm of torque.

Engines: 1.5 – 2.0 liters (100 – 150 kW, 136 – 204 hp), 3- & 4-cylinder
